Day 5 was Thursday, September 5 2025.
I started the day by taking the metro to Ottaviano, just north of the Vatican and St Peter's. Of course, during the jubilee year, the number of people and security measures can be overwhelming. As I had expected... Didn't stay long but crossed the bridge at Castel Sant'Angelo and sort of repeated part of the walk from Tuesday. I didn't eat enough of the delicious Italian ice cream during my May trip to Tuscany. So I'm compensating for that now... :-) "Lunch" was at one of the classic ice cream places: Giolitti. I had their Coppa Giolitti, super yummy and quite filling. Recommended!
After a six hour walk I had some rest at the hotel. Was super tired, but a longish nap took care of that. Went out for an evening walk in beautiful light. A low sun with some thin clouds to soften the light a bit. Found a long street going down and then up a hill with everything backlit in this light. I got inspired! Dinner was small street food snacks at a couple of places. Got home after dark with some groceries after a four hour walk.
